Reminder: Learn more about and get involved in spatial planning

The City is reminding residents and stakeholders of the upcoming information day for all of those interested in spatial planning. Representatives who have been nominated to serve on the Spatial Planning Collectives at the 20 subcouncils across Cape Town are invited to attend, as well as those wanting to get involved in shaping spatial policies that impact their neighbourhoods. The session is on Saturday, 18 October 2025.
The information day will be hosted as follows:

‘The Spatial Planning Collectives is the ideal opportunity for residents’ associations, stakeholders, and organisations with an interest in spatial planning to get involved and collaborate with the City on spatial planning policies. At the information day, we will elaborate more about the intention of the collectives initiative, how to get involved, and to answer any questions you may have. I encourage residents and associations to attend this engagement,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Eddie Andrews.
The Spatial Planning Collectives will provide a platform for regular engagement with residents about spatial policies and planning processes in their neighbourhoods. It is designed to educate, empower and engage community stakeholders at the 20 subcouncils across Cape Town about the City’s spatial policies, such as the Municipal Spatial Development Framework; District Spatial Development Frameworks (DSDFs) and Local Spatial Development Frameworks (LSDFs), and planning processes.
Residents, residents’ associations, stakeholders and groups with a direct interest in spatial policy are encouraged to nominate representatives to serve on the Spatial Planning Collective at their local subcouncil.
The closing date for submissions has been extended to 21 November 2025

The Urban Planning and Design Department will assess the nominations and finalise the list of participants to serve in the collectives.
